According to WordPress, the majority of this blog’s hits come from people looking for girls riding fixed gear bikes. Not to pander, but that gave me the idea of uploading one picture which falls into that theme every week, or more specifically, every Sunday. Until I actually meet some rad girls that ride fixies, the pictures will be borrowed from other sites and blogs, with proper credit given of course.

If you’re one of those individuals who stumbled upon my blog trying to sate your hunger for female fixie-riders, take a minute and actually read some of the other posts. It would be a nice gesture if you took a look at what I do, make and am interested in.

I’ve seen some pretty bad advertising, but this just might take the cake. Who exactly is this supposed to appeal to, pedophiles?

I’m more than a little weirded out.

I posted a few months ago about the “Machine Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low” t-shirt art show, held by Moniker Designs, that I participated in. I’m usually pretty bad at following up at anything, and it’s shameful that this is still the case when that something is self promotion. Katie, owner of Moniker grand coordinator of the whole event, recently sent me a link to the snazzy new online store. All the designs featured in the show are available for sale, in both men’s and women’s sizes.

Below is my submission. It ended up being (unfortunately) titled “CMYK Guns,” which was really just the name of the file. My fault. To the photographer, I’m sorry that I can’ give you the credit or plug you deserve, but I have no idea who you are.

Katie if you see this, thanks again for everything!

It’s now Friday, making it two days since the show, and I have no intention of publishing this post tonight. Copy drafts allow me to feel like I’m actually getting something done, generating interesting content, without actually committing to sitting down and doing something start to finish. *After finishing the whole thing, the clock says 12:00 AM Sunday*

I picked up a ticket for Ty Segall and Teen Anger at Soundscapes last week after seeing the show posted on the store’s “Don’t Miss” concert list. Admittedly, I had no idea whether the ten dollars I just dished out would end up being at all worth it, but if you prefer the short version of the story, it definitely was. The longer story involves me actually listening to all the bands through MySpace and then trying desperately, and ultimately successfully, to convince my friend Luca to come with me.

The show started off slow. The audience was thin during the opening set, a band called School Jerks. To their credit, the singer was either out of his mind, wasted, naturally entertaining or some combination of the three. He spent the entire set either on the ground or with his head at waist level, randomly jabbing it into the crowd (see below). Good for him.

The venue started to fill up before the second set, Charlie and the Moonhearts. They were good, enough so that I couldn’t really elbow my way any closer to the stage to take a better picture then the one below

The third band, Teen Anger, upped the intensity a little. Maybe it was the singer’s Ian Curtis vibes, the guitarist’s (who makes an appearance later on) moustache or the attractive girl on bass. Whatever it was, people were moving. I think it was during this set that my fake Ray Bans fell out of my pocket and lasted about 5 seconds in the pit. Oh well, another trip to Kensington Market is in order.

Someone tried to give me the frames back when it settled down a little. I couldn’t really understand what he was saying, but I think it had something to do with him being under the impression that they were actually really expensive. In reality, they cost about $4.95. Anyway, as a joke I found him on the street after the show and tried to give them to him, but he got really offended and drunkenly spluttered “I don’t want them man!”

Ty Segall’s set was live. People were moshing pretty energetically. I probably spent about half of it on the ground. At one point, I landed right on top of my camera, lens out. That was a bad moment. It took a few hours of patience and tinkering before it would actually turn on again… thank god. It would have been really fucking shitty if I lost all my pictures AND had to replace the camera. The guitarist from Teen Anger climbed onto the rafters and started crowd surfing at some point. The legs in the picture below belong to my friend who I dragged along. He was the only guy supporting the guy, who ended up on the ground about a second after the picture was taken.

All in all, good show, worth the ten bucks and I’d recommend that anyone interested check out all the bands. And if anyone is wondering, the title of this post is a quote from Ty Segall when we were both stuck in the tiny washroom.

Of all the creative flotsam I encounter on the Internet everyday, it seems that a disproportionately high percentage of it is either made in Japan, created by Japanese people or is greatly influenced by something Japanese. With in mind, I’d like to present the first of who-knows-how-many posts dedicated to Japanese creative media.

This video, which I saw on Surly Blog, is by Nagi Noda. A quick glace at her Wikipedia page informed me that she was a female Japanese pop artist who died in 2008 at the age of 35. Depressing, but her work is amazing.

I’ve seen this add floating around on a few blogs (in this case Siam Fixed), and I thought I’d post it just for kicks. Definitely worth checking out.

It’s highly, highly unlikely that anyone will see this (unless this blog becomes popular or frequently visited in the future), but it still feels appropriate to present my thoughts to the anonymous void known as the Internet.

Many of my close friends have long suspected that I have a certain infatuation with Asian girls. Good on them, this is fairly correct. To expand on this idea, it is safe to say that I most definitely have a fetish for attractive Asian girls who can ride bikes (of the track variety specifically) well.
